Outcomes Students are able to explain some of the main findings and ideas in the psychology of perception and motor control and the biological bases of these; develop an understanding of research methods in these areas of psychology; integrate findings from behavioural and neuroscience research methods; appropriately use the scientific literature to draw conclusions; distinguish data from interpretation, and understand the interdependence of experiment and theory; evaluate and synthesise the results of psychological research; and appreciate the importance of the scientific method in advancing psychological knowledge.
Content This unit provides an overview of the main findings and theories in the psychology of perception and motor control and what is known of their neural substrates. Students develop an understanding of research methods in these areas of psychology and master the central concepts, ideas and theories.
Assessment Students demonstrate achievement of the outcomes through at least one substantial piece of written work and participating in various laboratory and tutorial activities including an oral report. These, and tutorial performance in the unit, count toward 50 per cent of the marks available. An end-of-semester examination, which assesses students' understanding of the unit content, counts towards the remaining 50 per cent of the marks.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
