NURS8810 Professional Nursing Issues [PG]

Content During this unit, students examine the historical, political, sociocultural, economic and technological influences on nursing and health care. Topics explored include the evolution of nursing practice in Australia; the legal/ethical context of nursing; the relevance of theory to practice; gender issues in nursing; the feasibility of multidisciplinary health-care teams, including an exploration of the traditional roles of doctors and nurses; professionalism and the role of regulatory bodies and nursing organisations; alternative models of care outside the hospital; the role of nursing in rural health; defining nurse leadership; nursing in the context of diverse needs; representation of nursing in the media and the unique aspects of nursing research.
Assessment Both formative and summative assessment are used including tutorial participation and a final examination.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.
