Credit 6 points
Availability Semester 1, Semester 2

Outcomes Students are able to apply mathematical reasoning to analyse the problems in various fields of human endeavour; understand and appreciate the power of mathematics; and communicate effectively with others.
Content This unit is available to students who have obtained a pass in TEE Discrete Mathematics, but not to students who have passed TEE Calculus or TEE Applicable Mathematics. The unit presents a self-contained introduction to the elements of calculus with emphasis on the applications in the biological, environmental and physical sciences. Topics are polynomials, graphs, functions, limits, derivatives, integrals. Concepts and skills needed for the study of calculus are reviewed.
Assessment This comprises an end-of-semester examination and in-semester tests and assignments. All assessment tasks require students to apply their knowledge of the unit content to solve previously unseen problems. In all written assessed work, credit is given for clarity and correctness of presentation as well as for actual results.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete the course.
