| Outcomes | Students are able to (1) describe the institutions and principles driving the various legal systems under study; (2) recognise the culture-specific nature of law and the importance of respecting differences; (3) display an understanding of select business laws and how they operate; (4) identify and discuss contemporary legal issues in the jurisdictions under study; and (5) critically reflect on the differences between Western and Asian legal systems. | |||
| Content | This unit is available at Level 2 or 3. It is designed for students who are interested in Asian legal systems or doing business in Asia. It offers an introduction to the legal systems of a select group of Asian jurisdictions including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (not all of them are covered every year). | |||
| Assessment | Students are required to attend and participate in tutorials, complete a take-home assignment and sit for an end-of-semester examination. Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. | |||
