LAWS3329 Business Law in Asia [UG]

Outcomes Students are able to (1) describe the institutions and principles driving the various legal systems under study; (2) recognise the culture-specific nature of law and the importance of respecting differences; (3) display an understanding of select business laws and how they operate; (4) identify and discuss contemporary legal issues in the jurisdictions under study; and (5) critically reflect on the differences between Western and Asian legal systems.
Content This unit is available at Level 2 or 3. It is designed for students who are interested in Asian legal systems or doing business in Asia. It offers an introduction to the legal systems of a select group of Asian jurisdictions including China, Hong Kong, Japan, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore (not all of them are covered every year).
Assessment Students are required to attend and participate in tutorials, complete a take-home assignment and sit for an end-of-semester examination.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.

Prerequisites: LAWS1104 Introduction to Law
Incompatibility: Students enrolled in the Bachelor of Laws are not permitted to enrol in this unit.
