In Australia Italian is the second-most spoken community language. In Italy it is spoken as a second language by two million migrants. This unit explores the dynamics of language use in a migratory context; illustrates the repertoire of the Italian community in Australia and documents the process of attrition which Italian is undergoing; and examines aspects related to the acquisition of Italian by migrants in Italy and the link between language, identity and culture. |
| Assessment |
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
