ITAL1102 Italian Beginners II [UG]

Outcomes Students (1) have a sound Italian vocabulary relating to everyday communication and situations; (2) know a variety of learning strategies relevant to the areas of syntax, semantics and phonetics; (3) are able to use the most important Italian grammatical structures correctly in oral and written communication; (4) are able to communicate in essential contexts relating to everyday situations; (5) have a good knowledge of Italian culture and society; and (6) are able to read Italian texts found in everyday situations. Students achieve basic proficiency in the macro skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing in Italian, corresponding to an average level achievement in TEE Italian.
Content This is a dedicated language acquisition unit intended to complete the coverage of language skills commenced in ITAL1101 Italian Beginners I, in order to speak, read and write basic Italian. Students are taught to speak, understand, read and write contemporary Italian on the basis of communicative and natural learning methodologies, supported by grammatical and linguistic approaches, and multimedia. The unit leads to ITAL2203 Italian Intermediate I.
Assessment Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
