Outcomes Students enter the Health Industry Practicum with the generic skills required, including skills in communication, professional behaviour, project management, computer competency, time management and health information literacy.
Content This unit prepares students for placement and subsequent work within the health industry. A workshop style of teaching, with short lectures, exercises, role playing and practical experiences, provides students with generic competencies required for work within the health industry. Students are introduced to various written and verbal styles of communication, methods for seeking out information and resources, principles of ethical workplace behaviours, elements and procedures of project management and techniques for managing time and resources. Students are encouraged to be self-motivated, work in a timely fashion and understand the importance of advocacy, empathy and professional behaviour. The unit is a core requirement of the Bachelor of Health Science degree. Attendance is compulsory.
Assessment This comprises a workshop exercise (15 per cent), a health industry sketch (10 per cent), a project management group project (35 per cent), an examination (20 per cent) and an examination interview (20 per cent).

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.

Prerequisites: PUBH1101 Public Health and PUBH2202 Public Health and Health Care Systems. This unit cannot be taken concurrently with PUBH1101 Public Health or PUBH2202 Public Health and Health Care Systems.
