EDUC8522 Capstone Teaching Experience [PG]

Availability Semester 1, non-standard teaching period
Outcomes Students demonstrate knowledge of and skills in developing student-centred learning tasks; use a variety of resources to engage student interest; evaluate learning tasks; accept and act on advice from their mentor teacher; undertake a range of teacher responsibilities; and develop and sustain professional working relationships with school colleagues.
Content Primary—Students undertake four weeks of school experience in a rural, remote, or international school; a local education-related organisation which provides programs for primary students; or in a setting of personal interest within a primary specialist area (e.g. art, music, dance, health and physical education). They have the opportunity to try a variety of techniques and approaches appropriate to instruction in these settings.

Secondary—Students undertake four weeks of school experience in a secondary school either in a rural area, or internationally, or in a local education-related organisation which provides educational programs for secondary students. They have the opportunity to try a variety of techniques and approaches appropriate to instruction in these settings.
Assessment This comprises a 4000-word report and a poster presentation.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit.

Contact hourslectures/workshops: 4 hrs per week for 1 week; school placement: 4 weeks of full-time attendance (31 May – 25 June)
