| Outcomes | Students are able to plan and implement programs and lessons in Years 8 to 12 in their curriculum major; plan and implement programs and lessons in Years 8 to 10 in their curriculum minor; demonstrate the use of a variety of learning strategies, resources and assessment techniques; develop confidence in using a variety of techniques of behaviour management; accept the duties and responsibilities of a teacher both inside and outside the classroom; reflect on their school and classroom experiences with a view to improving their practice; accept and act on advice from school mentors and University supervisors as appropriate; and adopt a professional approach in all aspects of their work in schools and classrooms. | ||
| Content | Students undertake six weeks of school experience in their major and minor curriculum areas. They teach upper secondary classes in the major and lower secondary classes only in the minor. Students are expected to implement a variety of approaches and techniques in the classroom. Under the guidance of the mentor teacher and the University supervisor, students are encouraged to develop their teaching styles and confidence in their management techniques. The University supervisor visits the student twice during school experience to provide constructive feedback and assessment of the level of competence. | ||
| Assessment | Two supervisory visits are made to each student during the teaching practice with both written and oral feedback provided. Final assessment is made on the basis of school and University reports. Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit (see Faculty Rule 5.5.2.8). | ||

| Note | A National Criminal Record Check and a Working with Children Clearance must be presented to the Graduate School of Education before any student undertakes teaching practice. If a clearance is not given, the student must approach the Department of Education and Training of Western Australia for permission to proceed (see 'Professional Requirements' in the Faculty of Education section of this handbook).
