| Outcomes |
Students are able to understand how mathematics is learned; are confident to teach upper secondary mathematics; are willing to constantly reflect on their teaching and find ways of improving it; and are able to draw on a range of experiences and resources that help them become highly effective teachers. |
| Content |
This unit gives students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the content presently taught in post-compulsory mathematics courses as well as examine the proposed new courses of study. Guest lecturers include experienced teachers sharing best lesson ideas, programs and the latest technologies used in the classroom. |
| Assessment |
This is by means of two assignments. The first assignment requires that students discuss with others and critically reflect upon an episode of their own teaching that has been videotaped. The second assignment requires that students select, modify and organise a substantial resource file for teaching lower and upper secondary mathematics.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
