Students are able to choose teaching approaches that are appropriate for learners in upper school and for the subject matter taught in their LOTE; are familiar with the Year 11 and 12 Courses of Study; are familiar with assessment procedures in upper school; and analyse and reflect on their teaching and their use of language in the classroom. |
| Content |
This unit gives an overview of LOTE in the upper secondary school curriculum; principles of, and developments in, language teaching and learning; the development of micro and macro skills in listening and speaking; and the use of teaching aids, text evaluation, student assessment, lesson planning and teaching strategies. It also offers opportunities for reflection on the first school experience through analysis of lesson segments. |
| Assessment |
This includes the preparation of a resource package, video analysis and analysis of language use in the classroom.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
