| Outcomes |
Students demonstrate an understanding of key concepts associated with teaching, learning and assessment of English curriculum in the senior school years; demonstrate a repertoire of teaching and learning strategies relevant to the senior school English curriculum; demonstrate a detailed understanding of current Western Australian English Curriculum structures and policy relevant to senior school English; develop teaching and learning materials for senior school English; and develop skills of classroom-based enquiry which promote continual development as a reflective practitioner. |
| Content |
This unit is for pre-service teachers who plan to teach secondary school English in Years 11 to 12. It provides a theoretical framework for teaching, learning and assessment. Familiarity is developed with the Curriculum Framework and syllabi taught in Years 11 and 12. Through active participation in workshops, students develop an understanding of strategies for effective teaching and learning, skills for planning and programming, development of instructional materials and resources and formulate personal positions on issues relevant to English teaching. |
| Assessment |
There are two assessment tasks requiring students to demonstrate curriculum planning knowledge and skills and the ability to critically reflect on teaching for professional growth.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
