Outcomes Students are able to (1) develop a personal philosophy to support their teaching; (2) use relevant curriculum documents to plan, implement and assess learning programs for Years 8 to 10 which support the principles of the outcomes-based Curriculum Framework in Western Australia; (3) demonstrate skills in lesson planning and presentation in preparation for their first teaching practice; (4) develop an awareness of a range of strategies which can support their approach to classroom management; (5) demonstrate high standards of professional behaviour and commitment to the unit; and (6) work collegially with their peers.
Content This unit uses the Curriculum Framework, the Society and Environment Outcomes and Standards Framework and a range of school-related resources to enable students to develop the knowledge and competencies needed to create learning programs, design lesson plans, develop a range of learning strategies based on a variety of resources, and develop appropriate assessment techniques. literacy, values education, citizenship education, global education and other contemporary issues are included. Classroom competencies to enhance effective lesson presentation and management techniques are also considered.
Assessment This comprises the preparation of a series of lesson plans and a learning program.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.

Prerequisites: enrolment in a Bachelor of Education, Master of Teaching or Graduate Diploma in Education course or combined course; for students in the Bachelor of Education combined course: EDUC2202 Constructions of Teachers' Work
Advisable prior study: at least two Level 1 and two Level 2 units in one of the social science subjects taught in schools such as economics, geography, history or politics
