| Outcomes |
Students are able to plan and present stimulating science lessons which help students achieve specified learning outcomes; demonstrate familiarity with Science Outcome Statements and adopt an outcomes-based approach to science teaching; and use a variety of methods to assess and report on student progress in science. |
| Content |
This unit is an introduction to teaching science in lower secondary school using an outcomes-based approach focusing on student-centred learning. Students develop an understanding of how pupils learn most effectively in science and are able to use this understanding to plan and implement learning programs in science. |
| Assessment |
This includes authentic learning tasks that develop the skills and competencies required for teaching science. Materials produced include a series of lesson plans and a learning program.
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
