Outcomes Students are able to plan and present stimulating science lessons which help students achieve specified learning outcomes; demonstrate familiarity with Science Outcome Statements and adopt an outcomes-based approach to science teaching; and use a variety of methods to assess and report on student progress in science.
Content This unit is an introduction to teaching science in lower secondary school using an outcomes-based approach focusing on student-centred learning. Students develop an understanding of how pupils learn most effectively in science and are able to use this understanding to plan and implement learning programs in science.
Assessment This includes authentic learning tasks that develop the skills and competencies required for teaching science. Materials produced include a series of lesson plans and a learning program.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
