Content This unit develops an understanding of policies and practices which support teachers in dealing with diversity within their classrooms. It focuses in particular on the need to provide a quality learning environment for all students and considers the social and legal context of teaching learners with exceptional needs. The characteristics of some disabilities and their impact on the classroom are discussed. A variety of approaches to classroom management are explored.
Assessment Students are required to keep a log of incidents relevant to their inclusion of a child with a disability and write a summary of their log (maximum 2000 words) outlining problems and identifying strategies regarding their inclusion.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student or a student enrolled in the Graduate Diploma in Education who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
