Outcomes Students demonstrate an ability to plan, implement and assess learning programs independently; respond positively to advice from mentor teachers and University supervisors; display increasing confidence and competence in managing student behaviour; demonstrate a reflective practice approach to teaching; undertake all of the responsibilities of a teacher; and demonstrate a high level of professional commitment.
Content Students undertake an extended practicum of nine weeks from approximately August to November (this period includes two weeks of school vacation).

In primary placements students are allocated teachers from Years 1 to 7.

In secondary placements students teach lower secondary classes in their major and minor curriculum areas and, if appropriate, classes in Years 11 and 12 in their major.

While students have the support of a mentor teacher, a high level of commitment, independence and competence is expected of students at this stage of their pre-service education. Pre-service teachers are encouraged to participate in, and contribute to, the life of the school beyond their learning area.
Assessment This is determined by mentor and University supervisor reports.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit [See Faculty Rules 11.1.4.7 (BA, BEd); 11.1.29.7 (BEd, BSc); 11.1.43.6 (BEc, BEd); 5.6.12.9 (MTeach)].
