EART3320 Environmental Change [UG]

Outcomes Students are able to understand the controls of climate change processes; develop a firm grasp of the nature of past and future climate changes; appreciate how climate impacts on the wider global environment; place the issue of future climate change into a societal context; acquire the skills necessary to examine evidence and give an interpretation of data for understanding the environmental processes and changes at the global scale; participate in group work on a research project and associated work.
Content This unit aims to provide the student with an understanding of the global climate debate by explaining the causal mechanisms, the range of climate states that the Earth has and can experience and their impacts on the physical and social-economic world. On completion of the unit, students have sufficient expertise to participate in the wider climate change debate and have a working knowledge of the issues that are relevant to future careers in environmental science, planning and management.
Assessment This comprises a research project proposal, a short literature review, a research project report, a PowerPoint presentation and a two-hour theory examination.

Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course.
