This unit gives a survey of Roman art, covering sculpture from the late Republic to the Arch of Constantine and the Column of Arcadius, wall painting and mosaics, particularly those of Pompeii and Herculaneum, from the first century BC to the time of the Ravenna churches, the architecture of the Roman Empire and Roman Republican and Imperial coinage. |
| Assessment |
This comprises tutorial performance (10 per cent), a test on technical terms (15 per cent), a 2000- to 2500-word essay (25 per cent) and a two-hour examination (50 per cent).
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
