| Content: This unit comprises the following topics: sensing—the physics of the eye, vision, colour, the ear, acoustics, ultrasound, sonar and neural processes; imaging—electron microscopy, confocal microscopy, X-ray diffraction, ultrasound, 3D transforms, and MRI; transducers—instrumentation and the measurement of bio-electricity and bio-impedance, EEG, ECG, fourier analysis, extracting, amplifying and filtering of a signal. |

Assessment: This comprises laboratory work (20 per cent), and examinations and assignments (80 per cent).
Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. |
