| Content | This is a required foundation unit for the Asian Business major. It can be taken in the first 48 points of study as a prerequisite (with the code ABUS1190) to ABUS2204 Asian Business Contexts or as a co-requisite to that unit. The unit offers an understanding of how business enterprises develop a business strategy in the context of the new global economy. It focuses on how these strategies have evolved in the Asian region. This region has experienced turbulent times following the economic crisis that began in July 1997; however, despite the difficulties, Asia remains a significant region of world production. The unit concentrates on the three major business traditions in Asia—the Japanese and Korean; the overseas Chinese; and the Anglo-American. In each tradition, the student examines the type of business enterprise that has emerged. It then focuses on the nature of business organisation, leadership, management style, business strategy and the general business culture in each. A key feature of these traditions is their continued regional and international expansion. Business strategies that focus on only one nation find it difficult to remain competitive. Students explore this internationalisation process. | ||
| Assessment | Supplementary assessment is not available in this unit except in the case of a bachelor's pass degree student who has obtained a mark of 45 to 49 and is currently enrolled in this unit, and it is the only remaining unit that the student must pass in order to complete their course. | ||
